Abstract: Translating the growing body of research findings from the field of basic nutrition
into meaningful and clinically relevant dietary advice is one of the major challenges facing
clinical nutrition today. From nutrigenomics to deep phenotyping, designing personalized and unbiased nutritional plans for individuals
or population subgroups requires the integration of numerous factors. Similarly, basic scientists, clinical scientists, and health
professionals need to collaborate to establish a comprehensive framework for implementing these new discoveries at the
population level. In a world experiencing an explosive increase in the prevalence of obesity and its related metabolic disorders, such as type 2 diabetes and
cardiovascular diseases, tailored nutritional prescriptions
represent a highly promising approach for the prevention and management of metabolic syndrome. This review aims to explore
the latest research findings in the field of precision nutrition, analyzing the most relevant aspects influencing an individual's response to
lifestyle/nutritional interventions. This article will discuss recent advances in dietary habits,
eating behaviors, physical activity/exercise, and deep phenotyping, while also exploring the relevance of novel applications in
nutrigenomics, metabolomics, and microbiota profiling. It highlights
the latest research findings in the field of precision nutrition development. Finally, it will review the results of published
studies that provide examples of new pathways for the successful implementation of innovative precision nutrition
approaches.
